Home Remodel in Olympia

We just completed a major home remodel.  This included moving the kitchen to the south side of the house, converting the existing kitchen to a girl’s bedroom, building two additions for an indoor pool and home gym, and remodeling the main bathroom.

Designing your next project

Here are a couple pictures showing the transition of a fireplace remodel. We started with a simple sketch which showed the customer an idea of what we were going to do. Next, the work began with the demolition of the old faux brick paneling, installation and finishing of new drywall. We then installed new backer board where the slate would be installed and began setting the stone. We not only put the slate behind the fireplace but also across the front of the platform as well. With the stone inplace, we painted and installed the stained wood trim. I think this turned out great and the customer was extremely happy.

Project Complete – Kitchen and Living Room Remodel adds warmth and value to Des Moines home

Here are a couple photos from the completed remodel project we did in Des Moines. This project involved replacing the walls, ceiling, floors, countertops and base trim. We also redesigned the fire place area to make it the vocal point in the living space. The rock around the fireplace is a multi-colored slate with a stained hemlock wood trim wrap. The countertops are granite with a single slab cut and placed on the old table to match the rest of the kitchen countertops. All the walls and ceilings were removed and redone with new drywall and texture. The floors are a hickory laminate floating floor. There are also new light fixtures by the fireplace and in the kitchen. The changes on this house make it a warm, inviting and comfortable place to live. I know the new owner is very happy with these upgrades.

Home remodel- drywall, paint, flooring, and a little slate to enjoy

Here’s some updated pictures from the remodel project we are doing. These pictures show the progress from drywall installation and finishing, through painting, a partial install of the floor and multi-color slate wainscoting behind the fireplace. The color on the walls and ceiling is the same but the sheen in different, we put a flat sheen on the ceiling. Using the flat paint cuts down on the glare and make a much more uniform paint job. The eggshell on the walls is little nicer looking for this application, it is also easier to keep clean. The flooring is a Pergo Laminate floor in a hickory finish. This is a wide plank floor meaning each piece of flooring contains what would be a single piece of finished wood flooring. Each plank measures 5″ wide. Laminate floors can purchased in single double and triple planks depending on the style you want to have. There is also a slight bevel around the perimeter of each piece which makes for a nice look. Let me know if you have any questions about products you see or the plus and minuses of different products. The customer chose the accent color around the fireplace to add a little variation to the whole room. I think he got the color selection just right as well as the amount of what was painted what color.

This reroof is the first phase of upgrades we are doing on this house. We removed the original shake roof that was on the house. We then installed 1/2″ cdx plywood over the existing skip sheathing. The shingle we installed is a Pabco 30yr. laminated shingles. A laminated shingle is essentially two shingle laminated together, this creates a thicker longer lasting shingle.
